This week Teach First NZ held its first round of assessment centres for 2013.
Sir Owen Glenn attended one of the assessment centres and observed a number of programme candidates delivering their seven-minute sample teaching lesson, one of the selection activities for the day. Sir Owen Glenn and The Glenn Family Foundation are important supporters of Teach First NZ, partnering with the organisation in 2012 with a focus on the Otara community. Two of Teach First NZ's partner schools are in the Otara area, and Sir Owen also had the opportunity to meet two of these participants, Josh Irving and Nadeen Papali'i from Tangaroa College, together with Teach First NZ Chief Executive Shaun Sutton.
As part of the Glenn Family Foundation partnership, Teach First NZ is collaborating with another Glenn Family Foundation project, the Young Enterprise Trust. Together, Teach First NZ and the Young Enterprise Trust will be working to increase the financial literacy of students within some of the schools that Teach First NZ serves.
