Teach First NZ’s inaugural cohort today completed the first part of the Teach First NZ leadership development programme, the Summer Initial Intensive (SII).
SII is an eight-week residential programme for participants, and the focus of the programme is on developing the skills and knowledge to best prepare participants for working in the classroom from the start of the school year. SII entails a combination of lectures, practical workshops, school visits, teaching practice, group and individual assessments, and leadership and team-building activities.
A particular highlight of this year’s SII was the marae noho - an overnight stay on a marae - which also included a visit from the Minister of Education Hon. Hekia Parata.
“The Summer Initial Intensive was incredibly challenging, but I got so much support from my fellow participants who were the most amazing, dynamic and inspiring group of individuals.”
