On 26 November 2013, Teach First NZ formally welcomed its 2014 cohort of participants with a celebratory event held at the University of Auckland, in partnership with the Faculty of Education.

The event saw a group of around 200 supporters, friends, funders, and programme partners of Teach First NZ come together as a wider community, in support of those participants beginning their teacher education and leadership development.

Brett Wigdortz OBE, Founder and CEO of Teach First in the UK, was the evening's keynote speaker. Other speakers included Carol Hirschfeld (Teach First NZ Board member), Professor Graeme Aitken (Dean of Education at the University of Auckland), Ngaire Ashmore (Principal of Tangaroa College), Deborah George (Chair of Teach First NZ), and Shaun Sutton (CEO of Teach First NZ).

In addition, the audience were treated to a stunning performance by Alfriston College's (a Teach First NZ partner school) 'Bruddas' musical group.

As part of his four-day visit to New Zealand, Brett also met with key education stakeholders, and other local supporters of Teach First NZ.

Brett was also interviewed by several national media outlets.
